FAQs - Camping: Small Tent

How big is the package & how much room does it take up in my vehicle?

Our packages usually take up the space of two medium suitcases when stacked up in a pile, but remember you can split everything up and piece it all in separately.

What size vehicle should I rent?

Vehicle size is largely dependent on how many people are in your group and how many personal luggage items you take with you.

Our packages usually take up the space of two medium suitcases when stacked up in a pile, but remember you can split everything up and piece it all in separately.

For a 1 or 2 person package, you can most likely get away with a compact or smaller car. For 3 people, you will need at least a mid-sized car. For 4-5 people, you are looking at a mid-sized SUV or minivan. For a family or group on a longer trip, a minivan is the safest/most comfortable option.

I want to rent this package One Way. How can I do that?

Please select a One Way: Small Tent package instead of this RETURN ONLY Camping: Small Tent package.

Our one-way bookings have limited inventory and availability, and have an additional one-way fee attached to the booking.

FAQs - General

Is the tent waterproof and do I need a rain tarp?

All of our tents come with a water resistant outer fly (tent cover), and will keep you dry even during long rainy days. We do not recommend placing an additional tarp over your tent, as that will stop the airflow through your tent and create condensation build-up inside.

It is a good idea to use a separate tarp as a rain shelter over your dining and cooking area however. You can find Shelter Tarp and Rope as an add-on to your package on the booking screen.

Are there things that I should buy that are not included in the package?

Our Packages have been designed to cover most of your camping needs. However, we do not include any food stuff.

We also do not include sleeping bags or blankets in the package by default. If you would like to rent a sleeping bag and bag liner from us, we have several options available on the booking screen as an add-on.

If I rent a package with a 4 person tent, can I sleep 4 people in there?

Our car camping packages are significantly more comfortable than a minimalist backpacking package. The sleeping mats are much larger than backpacking mats. For this reason, 4 people using the car camping setup WILL NOT FIT in a "4 person tent"

Fitting 4 people in a 4 person tent is a squeeze at the best of times. It requires the use of small, minimal sleeping mats and for people to sleep head-to-toe.

Lastly, our packages are based on the number of people in your party. This includes the number of sleeping mats, camp chairs, cutlery, plates, bowls, cups...etc.

What happens if I cannot pick-up or return the package during your office hours?

If you cannot return your equipment during office hours, our late return policy will come into effect and you will have to return the gear at open on the next day.

We expect that people plan accordingly for travel time, flight delays, and cross border time changes. Late or missed returns can be highly disruptive to our business, and in some extreme cases affect the group that follows you.

In case of emergencies, please contact our office to make an alternative arrangement. Out of office hours fees will apply is we need to keep our locations open after hours. If we need to retrieve our equipment from an off-site location the cost of retrieval will be passed along to you, the renter.

What happens if I return my package earlier or later than my return date?

There are no refunds for early returns. You may return your equipment at any time during our office hours.

If you wish to extend your trip, please contact your local office to check availability. Extensions with advanced notice are often possible and the existing per day rate will be added to your credit card.

You must contact our office for an extension, otherwise our late return policy will come into effect. Late or missed returns can be highly disruptive to our business, and in some extreme cases affect the group that follows you.

Help! We have never camped before. Can we still rent equipment?

Camping is a highly accessible activity! With a little guidance from us at the time of pickup, we are confident that even a first time camper will have a great experience.

We are here for you! Do not hesitate to ask lots of questions when you meet us to collect your gear.

I hear you have some big animals in Canada - should I be worried?

We do have some big animals! And no, most of our animals (including bears, wolves, badgers, elk, deer, etc) have absolutely no interest in humans at all, and in fact avoid us whenever possible. Seeing a bear in the wild is usually the highlight of most people's trip!

We often get asked about our bears and will be happy to give your our years of knowledge and know-how around safely camping and hiking in Western Canada. Food and cooking safety being our number one focus.

We also offer all of our campers the option to rent a Bear Safety Kit as an add-on on your booking screen at check-out. Along with our Bear Safety Kit, we offer detailed instuctions on the use of bear spray and a quick hands on tutorial in the shop.
